There's the recent work by Google's AI that discovered lots of new materials that would have taken people a very very long time:

There's this recent article about GPT scoring 86.5% on the US medical license exam and absolutely destroying real doctors on empathy scores:

There's the fact that it's already tremendously helpful in the field of software engineering for writing code and generally speeding up the process.

And as a general tool to bounce ideas and problems with, it's very helpful.

And the fact that we now have machines deeply understanding written text in just about any language is actually mind blowing.

I am with Paul on this. AI is definitely not a fad and it's only going to get more incredible as time goes on.
