Great article. The 80's was a particularly problematic era for this kind of behaviour in movies, where men comit sex crimes and harass women and it's seemingly normal.

Even Top Gun, a movie I loved so much when I was a teenager, is hard to watch in places now. Like the scene where Maverick follows Charlie into the women's toilets because he's obsessed with her.

Funnily enough there was a counter culture to this, where strong feminist messages were common. I'm thinking Aliens and Terminator 2.

Strange times. You could write a PhD on it.
